Sept. 18, 2016 – Basin Street Boys

Madison Jazz Society’s Fall season kicks off with this award-winning group of young musicians who play jazz standards from the 1920s & 1930s, and other tunes, in the Dixieland style. Formed in 2011 as part of a “Jazz Combo” class at UW-Platteville under Professor David Cooper, the group’s biggest influence has been the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, for infusing late 20th Century jazz stylings into the trad jazz repertoire to “create an enormous groove and energy while still paying respect to the tradition.” Having performed at the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Fest in Davenport IA for the past three years, this MJS gig will mark the band’s first Madison appearance. 1:00 PM, Coliseum Bar, 232 East Olin Avenue. Free admission for ages 18 & under. http://www.madisonjazz.com/events/category/mjs-events/
