This concert features UW alumnus and University of Richmond Professor Davison who teaches jazz, classical and Cuban music.  As a jazz musician, Davison has performed with the late tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker, trombonist Curtis Fuller, and legendary Latin jazz saxophonist and composer Justo Almario.  He has also performed alongside iconic Motown singers and groups like Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin, the Temptations and The Four Tops.  Along with producer Ed Tillett, Prof. Davison completed the 2007 documentary film, “Cuba: Rhythm in Motion,” that traces the musical genealogy between Cuban rhythms and American jazz.  He is currently writing a book on Cuban folk music.  The Waunakee High School Jazz Ensemble will perform an opening set.  7:30 PM, UW Old Music Hall.  Free admission.  www.music.wisc.edu/event/guest-artist-music-of-cuba-with-mike-davison-trumpeter-uwjo/.
