“Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary”

Wisconsin Public TV presents this excellent new film that examines the critical events, passions, experiences, and challenges that shaped Coltrane’s life and music.  It features rare footage of Trane in the recording studio, photos, family home movies, TV appearances from around the world, and interview clips with prominent musicians and other well-known admirers, his biographers, and family members.  Interviewees include Sonny Rollins, McCoy Tyner, Benny Golson, Jimmy Heath, Reggie Workman, Common, John Densmore, Wynton Marsalis, Carlos Santana, Wayne Shorter, and Kamasi Washington.
