March 28th, 2017 – Eric Siereveld’s Organic Quintet Lecture & Recital

March 28th, 2017 – Eric Siereveld’s Organic Quintet Lecture & Recital

Trumpeter and UW Afro-Cuban Jazz Ensemble Director Eric Siereveld’s doctoral dissertation is all about the soulful, swinging 1960s tradition of the Hammond B3 Organ quintet.  With support from the Jazz Consortium’s Artistic Development Grant Program, Eric’s lecture will address the role of prominent trumpet players who have been involved in the B3 Quintet, with Blue Mitchell, Woody Shaw, Ryan Kisor and Jim Rotondi as the focus of discussion.  The recital part of the program will feature a body of newly-composed works by Eric as well as several historically-significant compositions.  Members of the quintet for this performance were up in the air as we go to press, so checkwww.jazzinmadison.org in the coming weeks for that info.  6:30 PM, Morphy Recital Hall in the UW Humanities Building.  Free admission.
