Before her performances at this year’s Capital City Jazz Fest, 33 year-old New York-based trumpeter-vocalist-composer Bria Skonberg will deliver two workshops sponsored by Madison Jazz Society. Co-founder and leader of the all-female jazz band, Mighty Aphrodite, Ms. Skonberg has become a force in New York City’s classic hot jazz scene, extending the legacies of Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bechet. Her workshops will be open to public school and college students, as well as private instructors and any Madison performers who’d like to participate. Ms. Skonberg often gives presentations about the evolution and migration of jazz from the early days in New Orleans on forward but likes to tailor her presentations to the interests and instruments of the participants. To that end, registrants are asked to RSVP to by 4/22/17 to firstname.lastname@example.org. Today’s session will be held in the Music Room at First United Methodist Church (203 Wisconsin Avenue, in Downtown Madison), Free admission.
